Giulia is a 3L at UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) focused on international law.

She previously spent seven years roaming China as a photojournalist. Before that, she was based in Cairo, Paris, Cotonou and Ouagadougou.

In Asia, Giulia worked principally in China, but also in Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, Mongolia, Russia, North Korea and aboard an aircraft carrier in the South China Sea. In China, she covered issues that included domestic violence for The Washington Post, sensitive areas of the Tibetan plateau for M le magazine du Monde, the plight of the human rights lawyers as a cover story for The New York Times Magazine, the Hong Kong protests for Bloomberg in 2019, the mass surveillance and detentions in Xinjiang for The Wall Street Journal, The Telegraph and The New York Times in 2017 and 2019.

She produced and photographed feature and news stories and also organized portrait sessions in events like the Bloomberg New Economic Forum in Singapore in 2018 and the annual J.P. Morgan Global China Summit in Beijing from 2017 to 2019. For Bloomberg's wire service, Giulia covered China’s National People’s Congress in 2018 and 2019 and many other events.

Before moving to Asia, she covered the post-revolution period in Egypt in 2012 and 2013, had a cover story on The Muslim Sisterhood for The Financial Times Magazine and published a project on Muslim Chinese caught between Egypt and China, which appeared in portfolio form in Newsweek Japan and Internazionale in 2013.

Giulia won a Society of Publishers in Asia Award for excellence in investigative reporting, a Gerald Loeb Award for International Reporting and a Human Rights Press Award as part of The Wall Street Journal team for a story about surveillance in Xinjiang.
